Legacy Upgrade
The Legacy Upgrade adds an additional 1/8-inch core material to the bar area of the pad only. This brings the thickness of the pad from 5/8 to ¾ thickness in the bar area. The weight bearing capacity of the pad changes from 300lbs to 600lbs load.
This is the most popular upgrade for horses with strenuous riding applications such as Roping, Ranching, extended hours of trail riding, etc. It is also the best upgrade for horses with Atrophy, Kissing Spine, or mild drop of the back.
This is a $30 upgrade and is available on all Western models.
Frontier Upgrade
The Frontier Upgrade adds Wear Leather along the top. This upgrade is $30.
This is available in all Leathers (Grizzly, Oil Tan, and Floral). The top and bottom Wear Leathers will be the same color.

It was a joy doing business with. The representative I talked with knew her product, helped us decide what were the right pads for our Special Riders program and our horses. Shipping was fast. I personally have one of the pads that I've had for 15 years and it has held up with minimal wear and tear. Definitely would do business with them again

FAQ
How do I measure for a pad?
Measuring for a western saddle pad ensures a proper fit, which helps protect your horse or pony and improves saddle stability. Here's how to measure correctly:
1. Measure the Drop
The drop is measured from the center underside of the saddle down to the bottom of the cinch rings or rigging. This tells you how far the pad needs to extend downward to provide full coverage and protection.
2. Measure the Seat
The seat is measured along the top of the saddle, from under the swells (front) to under the cantle (back), using the longest points. This gives you the saddle’s seat length.
3. Determine the Back Length
To calculate the correct pad back length, add 4 inches to your seat measurement. This allows the pad to extend slightly beyond the saddle for better coverage and stability.
Tip: If your saddle measurement includes a half inch, always round up to the next whole number. For example, if your saddle measures 24½ inches, round up to 25 and add 4 inches, which gives you a 29-inch pad back length.

Do you offer colorful saddle pads?
Saddle Pad Colors for Every Style
If you like to keep things classic, our neutral and brown saddle pads are a great choice. These natural tones work with just about any horse and saddle color, and they give off a clean, timeless look.
But if you're someone who likes to stand out, we’ve got plenty of bright and bold colors too. Here are some of our top picks:
Purple Saddle Pad
Bold and royal, purple is a real show-stopper. We carry several shades like purple suede, purple grizzly, and grape grizzly, so you can find the one that fits your style.
Turquoise Saddle Pad
Fresh and eye-catching, turquoise has a calming vibe and really pops. It looks especially great with Native American-inspired tack and accessories.
Pink Saddle Pad
Fun and full of personality. Choose the soft rose pink for a more traditional look or go with fuchsia if you’re after something a little louder and more playful.

Do you sell western pony saddle pads?
Yes, absolutely! Our saddle pads can be used for ponies. To get the best fit, it's important to measure accurately. We offer back lengths ranging from 24 inches to 32 inches, which are ideal for ponies, small horses, and youth saddles. If you're unsure about sizing, check out our "How do I measure for a pad?" section (first question in the FAQ). It walks you through step-by-step to make sure you choose the right pad.
Why Use a Saddle Pad for a Pony?
A saddle pad isn’t just about looks — it plays an important role in your pony’s comfort and performance. Here’s why it matters:
- Cushioning: Adds a layer of padding to protect your pony’s back from the saddle.
- Shock Absorption: Helps reduce the impact of movement during riding.
- Better Saddle Fit: Fills gaps and ensures the saddle sits evenly.
- Moisture Control: Many pads wick sweat and help keep your pony comfortable.
Need an English pony saddle pad? Check out our English Glove Leather & Suede Saddle Pads.
Are these western saddle cushions?
Our pads do provide cushioning, but they are much more than basic saddle cushions. SaddleRight® pads are orthopedic saddle pads that are built to protect your horse's back and improve performance, not just soften the ride.
Many saddle cushions use memory foam, gel, or air bladders that can actually increase pressure points. We do not use any of those materials. Instead, our pads feature a unique core material that moves with your horse, absorbs shock, and will never compress or break down over time.
- Proven orthopedic protection since 1984
- Core material will not compress or deform
- No memory foam, gel, or air bladders
- Made with pressed wool felt and high-quality leather
- Handmade in the USA and backed by a lifetime guarantee
If you are looking for long-term support, moisture control, and better comfort for your horse, our pads are a better choice than standard saddle cushions.
Are your pads Custom / Personalized?
Yes, SaddleRight® offers custom saddle pads for both Western and English saddles. Whether you're looking for a personalized saddle pad for competition, ranch work, or everyday riding, we can help you create a design that fits your needs and style.

What makes your Equine Saddle Pads special?
Our orthopedic saddle pads are not just basic horse saddle cushions. Each SaddleRight® pad is specially designed to support your horse’s health, comfort, and performance.
Orthopedic Protection
Every pad is built with a unique orthopedic core that moves and recoils with your horse. This helps reduce pressure points, absorb shock, and keep your horse comfortable during any activity.
No Harmful Fillers
We do not use memory foam, gel foam, jelly, or air bladders - materials that can create harmful pressure points. Our core material is specifically engineered to relieve pressure, not cause it.
Premium Materials
We use glove leather, suede, and 100% pressed wool felt for durability, moisture wicking, and temperature regulation. This ensures the pad stays comfortable in all riding conditions.
Trusted by Riders Since 1984
Each pad is 100% handmade in the USA and comes with a lifetime guarantee on the core. Our pads will never compress, deform, or break down - even under heavy use.
Designed for All Types of Horses
These pads work especially well for:
- Sway-backed horses
- High-withered horses
- Short-backed horses
- Horses with muscle atrophy, kissing spine, or a mild drop in the back
Whether you're trail riding, roping, competing, or riding for fun, our saddle pads offer a reliable and long-lasting solution for comfort, stability, and performance.
What saddle pad works best with roping saddles?
Roping saddles need a pad that can handle heavy strain while protecting the horse’s back. Our Phoenix pad is the top choice for roping. It’s built to stay secure under the saddle tree, provide shock absorption, and keep horse and rider comfortable during long, demanding rides.
Which saddle pad should I use for endurance saddles?
Endurance saddles are designed for long-distance comfort, so your pad should reduce fatigue and pressure points. Our Endurance pad is specifically made for this purpose. It offers breathability, freedom of movement, and support under the seat cushion giving both horse and rider lasting comfort on the trail.
I ride a western horse in general ranch work or arena work. What pad should I choose?
For everyday western riding, the Western Square is a versatile option. It pairs well with most western horse saddles and keeps the saddle pad saddle combination balanced for comfort and durability.
Which horse saddle pads work best with treeless saddles?
Treeless saddles don’t have a rigid saddle tree, so they need extra support. Pads like the Round Barrel XT2, Special models, and the OSDR (Original Style Drop Rig) are designed to work with treeless saddles. They distribute weight evenly and protect your horse’s back from pressure points.
What are the best barrel racing saddle pads?
Barrel racing saddles typically have a round skirt, making the Round Barrel pad a great fit. For dropped riggings or treeless barrel saddles, the Round Barrel XT2 is a solid choice, offering extra drop length and a contoured fit to support tight turns and quick bursts of speed.
How do I know if I need a pad with extra drop for my rigging?
If your saddle has a drop rig or is treeless, the Round Barrel XT2 or OSDR are your best options. Both offer a 34"-36" drop, ensuring proper coverage under the rigging and maximum comfort for horse and rider.
